Which Winch do you prefer, use or going to purchase?

Which Winch do you prefer, use or going to purchase?

Today while sorting out pictures from events we covered and attended this year 2009 - I noticed a new trend. In the old days, just a few years ago all you ever saw on the front of truck, Jeep or SUV was the big red “W” of Warn winches. Over the last couple of years it seems that there is a bunch of new winches appearing on vehicles everywhere.

That made me starting thinking –
• Which winch do you like?
• Why do you like it?
• What made you decide to buy the Winch that you have?
• If you are going to buy a winch what do you look for before purchasing?

We have been a fan of Warn winches and hubs since my first 8274 that I bought at Jims Off Road in Oak Ridge, Tennessee in 1982. Personally I have owned several different vehicles that have all had Warn winches on them. Except for a short while when there was a Ramsey winch on the front of my Camo CJ-7 Jeep. It was a good winch just so slow that you could shave while waiting on it to spool in. I have worked on Warn M10000 winches that were built in the early 70’s that only needed a little seal and solenoid work. Even on my current Jeep Grand Cherokee ZJ it has a warn M8000 on it with an ARB Bull Bumper. My son is looking to put a winch on the front of his Jeep Cherokee XJ and has looked at several different models that are much less expensive. He explained that the cost was a big part of him deciding which winch. Let me know your thoughts please – I would really like to know if there might soon be a new “King of the Hill” in the winch market~!
