What happened to selling yourself?
My son who is attending NASCAR Technical institute in Mooresville, NC has had a heck of a time finding a job. He needs work to be able to pay for gas and food his mom and I are taking care of the rest of his bills till he graduates. After having car problems 10 days ago and not coming home for the Thanksgiving holiday he finally called and asks for help.
So I took a day off and headed 300 plus miles over to see if I could figure out what was wrong with the car. It seems that the upper radiator hose got a hole in it near the thermostat neck. He cut of the bad part of the hose and re-attached it. This in turn broke the plastic radiator. When he tried to find a hose no one had one that would work. I went to NAPA and they had both hoses. I found a new radiator on eBay shipped to the house for $100.00 (Christmas time project). So I glue the new hose on to the broken radiator and let it cure. The hose holds – go fill the car up with fuel and drive it for 20 miles of so to make sure that it holds. All is good on project number one.
Now on to NTI – I want to check on the job board for possible job openings. Luckily there is a bunch of them and I start writing down the numbers so that he can get the contact info for them. Here is where is get weird to me. You can not just go in and fill out a job application anymore. All of the jobs have to be applied for on line and then contact the employer. So how do you get a chance to even get an interview for a job? It seems to me that when you get to apply in person you have the chance of making that impact of “Here I am”. The fact that these are entry level, not for management seems to me that a young guy or gal really has no chance unless they are friends with the owner or know someone that works there. Heck – what is you do not have internet access? Just makes me wonder how the next generation will enter the work place unless they are very internet savvy… Of course most of them are! There were two jobs that did not require applying on-line… a pizza place and a carwash. So, if anyone knows of a job in the Mooresville, NC area needing an 18 year old gear head – please let me know.
